Kathmandu. Italy has become the world’s largest apple exporter. Italy has achieved this feat, surpassing the United States and China.
The international trade of apples in the whole world is about 70 million tons. The total value of which is more than 7 billion euros.
Italy’s share in global apples is 16 percent. The US has 14 per cent and China 13 per cent.
The US and China are followed by New Zealand, Chile, South Africa, Poland, France, the Netherlands and Turkey.
Italy has exported more than 10 lakh apples this year. This is 24 percent more than the previous year. Most of Italy’s apples are exported to Germany. Italy exports about 30 percent of the total apple production to Germany.
The reopening of the Suez Canal has boosted Italy’s apple trade, according to the Agricultural Research Institute. Apples are grown on about 54,000 hectares of land in Italy.
