KATHMANDU: Former President of Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) RK Sharma has donated Rs 25 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund for the rescue and relief work of the flood-affected people in Rasuwa.
Sharma has expressed sorrow over the irreparable loss of life and material damage caused by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers that entered Nepal via Tibet on August 23. Issuing a statement on Friday, Sharma paid tribute to those who lost their lives in this hour of natural disaster and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family members. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and prayed for the strength of the victims’ families.
Sharma, who is also the chairman of Pigeon Engineering Group, said in the statement, “This is not a small expression of our feelings and responsibility that we are with the country wherever we are when the motherland is in crisis.” Even if we are outside the country, our heart is always in the motherland. ’
In the statement, Sharma has expressed his high respect to the Government of Nepal, Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, local levels and non-governmental organizations who are working round the clock in rescue and relief work. He has also expressed gratitude to the NRNA activists who reached the affected areas and the neighboring countries who showed humanitarian goodwill.
Former President Sharma has also appealed to all Nepalis scattered around the world to help in the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the flood victims as per their capacity. “We Nepalis have always stood united during national crises like earthquakes, epidemics and floods. If we all join hands, we can heal the wounds of the victims and give them great encouragement to rise again.” ’
