Kathmandu. The Office of the Auditor General has suggested the government to investigate and take action against the officials involved in bringing Chinese aircraft in a way that puts unnecessary burden on the fund of Nepal Airlines Corporation.

Through the 62nd annual report, the Office of the Auditor General has suggested that the officials who decide from the feasibility study to the purchase and operation of the aircraft should be held accountable for the losses.

Crest

Due to the purchase of Chinese aircraft for the Airlines Corporation and the aircraft taken with the grant, the corporation’s last fiscal year 2080. A total of Rs 204.4 million has been spent so far. This year (FY 2080). A total of Rs 204.4 million has been spent including Rs 118.6 million for MA-60 aircraft and Rs 85.8 million for Y-12E aircraft, including insurance, parking, fuel and manual revision.

The nac had purchased three aircraft from the Chinese aircraft manufacturer. The Chinese government had provided two aircraft as a grant.

Nac had purchased one MA-60 aircraft on January 26, 2017, Y-12E1 aircraft on February 1, 2017 and two aircraft on February 13, 2018. The Chinese government donated one MA 60 aircraft on April 27, 2014, and one Y-12E aircraft on November 14, 2014.

According to the decision of the Board of Directors on July 1, 2019, the nac had stopped all the three insurance flights from the same time, citing reasons such as not getting trainer pilots on time to operate the aircraft, not providing spare parts immediately, spare parts being expensive, lack of aircraft as per the standards, training and expenses of pilots and engineers.

The decision to buy, operate and operate the aircraft and not to operate the aircraft did not seem to have studied the financial and reputational impact. Even when there is no income from the aircraft, the corporation has to spend continuously, which has led to additional expenses.

Although the NAC has repeatedly invited bids for the sale of the aircraft, it has been canceling the bid citing lack of suitable proposal.

Boeing aircraft also stopped for years

According to the Auditor General, the corporation bought the Boeing 757 in 1988. Although the corporation had directed to extend the process so that the engine of NABC aircraft has a validity of 30 years, it should be sold by 2019, but the auction process was not finalized by the management. Last fiscal year 2080 BS, the aircraft was fined for maintenance expenses, fuel, insurance, landing and parking and other charges. A total of Rs 24.34 million has been spent in 81.

One of the engines that flew between 2,000 and 2,200 cycle hours has been in the workshop in Iberia, Spain since 2017, and the workshop also demanded a payment of US$ 0.25 million on October 29, 2022 for engine storage and customs duties.
