Students of Nepal Engineering College mobilised to collect rain-related data

Kathmandu. Students of Nepal Engineering College have been mobilized as social scientists to collect rainfall data. A total of 20 students from the civil engineering department of the college have been selected as social scientists.

They will use simple tools and mobile technology to study water in areas where rainfall data is scarce and in disorganised urban areas such as The Kathmandu Valley.

Smartphone for Water Nepal has also organized an informative outreach program in the college with the aim of strengthening the role of youth in sustainable management of water resources. Chief Executive Officer of SFOW Nepal. Sanjib Neupane said the campaign would help in long-term water resource management. “This project is not only data collection but also a campaign to develop capacity at the local level through youth. Our efforts will contribute to long-term water resource sustainability. Neupane said.

At the program organized under the leadership of SFodbl Nepal CEO Neupane, who is also an alumnus of Nepal Engineering College, information was given about the goals, procedures and long-term impact of the project.

Speaking on the occasion, Associate Professor Ramesh Khanal, chief of the Department of Civil Engineering, said, “It is a matter of pride that our own alumni are at the forefront of such positive work. Participating in such programs gives students the opportunity to gain practical knowledge, which will be useful in their work in the future. ’

Selected students and social scientists have been given orientation on data collection methods. SFoWD Nepal hopes to bring a new perspective on water resources research and management system in Nepal by promoting citizen scientific ism.
