KATHMANDU: Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) has introduced a separate ‘Claim Procedure’ to provide insurance claim payment to the victims of the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River of Rasuwa on August 26.
The NRA has issued the Summary Procedure for Payment of Rasuwa Flood Claims, 2083. This procedure was approved by the Board of Directors of the Authority on September 22 and has come into effect immediately.
The NRA has prepared the work procedure as per the instructions of the government. According to the working procedure, the victims who lost their insurance documents due to the severe snowfall in the Bhotekoshi River of Rasuwa on August 10 will not have to complete complicated paperwork.
The insurance companies can pay the compensation amount or life insurance claim only on the basis of the recommendation and evidence issued by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, District Administration Office, concerned local level (village, municipality or ward) or any government agency among the Nepal Police.
Due to the unusual situation, the work procedure has been brought for the relief of the affected people as per the instructions of the Government of Nepal. Executive Director of the NRA, Sushil Dev Subedi, said, “The suggestions received from the insurers have also been incorporated while preparing the procedure. ’
The procedure has been implemented in the form of an advance payment with conditions to make the provisions related to claims and compensation transparent. The procedure also includes a condition that the insurance amount should be refunded if it is confirmed that the missing person or the property said to have been damaged in the future has been found safe.
According to the NRA, this procedure has been prepared to settle the claims of insured property, vehicles, projects, business stocks and human losses due to floods in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Chitwan, in a prompt, simple, transparent, systematic and effective manner. The authority has also directed the insurers to pay the insurance claims as per this procedure.
