KATHMANDU: Niraj Sharma has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Esewa Limited, Nepal’s leading payment service provider. The meeting of the Board of Directors of eSewa held on September 15 has decided to appoint Sharma as the Chief Executive Officer with effect from September 26. Sharma will serve for the next four years from today.
With over 25 years of leadership experience in the banking and financial sector, Sharma has experience in transaction banking, card systems, digital transformation and retail banking. He has demonstrated outstanding competence in the areas of digital innovation, strategic growth and customer-centric innovation development, as well as leading teams and driving institutional transformation effectively.
The leadership of Sharma, who has long experience in the banking and digital financial services sector, is expected to further strengthen eSewa’s future journey. The Board of Directors of eSewa believes that Sharma’s experience, leadership and expertise in digital financial services will contribute to the company’s future strategic priorities in an effective manner.
The Board of Directors believes that Sharma’s leadership will be pivotal in consolidating eSewa to further strengthen the company with the changing customer needs and the development of digital financial services.
Outgoing CEO Jagdish Khadka completes his tenure
The outgoing CEO of eSewa, Jagdish Khadka, has completed his four-year term. Khadka, who was appointed as the CEO of eSewa on September 28, 2022, has successfully completed his tenure.
Under the management leadership of Dr. Khadka, eSewa has significantly expanded its service, reach and scope of digital financial services. During his tenure, the number of users, merchants, and authorized representatives of eSewa has increased significantly, as well as significant achievements have been made in the field of creation of new products and features, innovation, and expansion of digital services. During his tenure, the number of users registered on eSewa has crossed 1.4 crore and the number of merchants has crossed 6 lakh.
During his tenure, he has played an important role in making eSewa more inclusive, state-of-the-art and user-friendly. He has successfully led the way in making digital payments and financial management easy, secure and multi-dimensional through the expansion of digital loan facilities, Finance 360, eSewa Circle, Business Link, Business App, Instant Pay, Calendar and Event Services, Insurance Products and various lifestyle features.
In addition, under his leadership, the ‘Talk Back’ feature for the visually impaired citizens and the operation of an app in Nepali language for the ease of the general public have made financial services accessible. Under the leadership of eSewa Management, Khadka played an important role in the company’s business growth, expansion of digital financial services, inclusive financial access, and customer-centric innovation.
