Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The Government of Nepal has again threatened to shut down social media platforms including facebook (meta) if they do not register.
Despite repeated calls by the government to register social networks, including Facebook, these companies have not budged.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on September 29 has decided to make a public call to all social media operators to enlist within seven days as per the ‘Guidelines for Managing the Use of Social Media, 2080’ and the Supreme Court’s order.
The Cabinet has decided to gradually deactivate the platforms that have not been listed or not contacted within the stipulated time within Nepal.
Recently, the Supreme Court had issued a mandamus in the name of the government to make arrangements for registration of all social media and digital platforms, whether domestic or foreign, before coming into operation in the contempt of court case against the YouTube channel of ‘Sidhakura.com’.
