Kathmandu. The Madhes province government has declared a drought-hit area and appealed to the federal government for relief as there was no rain even during the rainy season.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Madhes province government held on Thursday evening declared the province as a drought-hit area.
The state government has declared the drought-hit area in view of the problems in planting paddy, a major crop, due to lack of timely rainfall due to environmental imbalance. The meeting also urged the federal government to announce a special package for the relief of drought-hit farmers.
Farmers have not been able to sow paddy crop in the areas where they have to cultivate on the basis of sky water due to lack of rain this year. Paddy has also started to crack in the fields where paddy has been planted.
Similarly, the state government has also decided to call upon the donor agencies active in the agriculture sector to provide necessary assistance.
In addition, the meeting also decided to mobilize necessary resources to solve the drinking water crisis seen in various places including Birgunj of Parsa.
