Kathmandu. Tourist arrivals in Koshi Province have increased by 45.5 percent. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has announced the fiscal year 2019/20. According to the semi-annual review of 1982, the overall arrival of external tourism has increased with the arrival of Indian tourism.
According to the report, there has been a significant increase in tourist arrivals in the first six months of the current fiscal year (mid-December) as compared to the first six months of the previous fiscal year.
During the review period, the number of tourists coming from india has increased by 53 percent compared to the same period of the last fiscal year. However, the number of tourists coming from china has decreased by 31.1 percent. According to the NRB, the number of tourists coming from third countries has increased by 39.5 percent during the review period.
The bed capacity of hotels selected for the economic review increased by 15.6 percent. Also, the average occupancy rate of hotels is 53.3 percent. In the same period last year, the occupancy rate was 55.4 percent. Although tourist arrivals have increased, the occupancy rate has decreased.
During the review period, an additional 13.3 percent of the tourist-level hotel businesses got employment compared to the same period of the last fiscal year. There was an increase of 5.1 percent in employment in the same period last year.
At present, there are three five-star hotels operating in Koshi Province. Five more five-star hotels are under construction. Currently, Mechi Crown and Kingsbury are birtamode and Soaltee Crown Itahari are five-star hotels. Mechi Crown also operates casino gambling. Similarly, four-star hotels, Big and Ratna Hotels have been operating casinos in Biratnagar.
In Biratnagar, hotels are being constructed by Lemantri, Century and Kingsweri. The AGM of businessman Durga Prasain in Jhapa and Ramada Hotel of Deshbandhu Basnet Group in Itahari are also under construction.
Hotels in Koshi State are a place to visit and enjoy for Indian tourists, especially from West Bengal and Bihar. Indians come as tourists to hotels in Nepali markets across the border as they are allowed to play casinos and drink freely.
Two five-star hotels are operating in Birtamod and Damak of Jhapa and one in Itahari of Sunsari. Similarly, Hotel Axis, Hotel Royalton and Hotel Asiatic five star hotels are under construction in Biratnagar.
There are more than 500 tourist-level hotels in Koshi Province. There are more than 3,500 ordinary hotels for tourists to stay in. The hotels in Koshi province have the capacity to accommodate up to 10,000 tourists in a night.
