NRA’s Far-Western Province conducts insurance interaction in Bhajani Municipality

Kathmandu. The Far-Western State Office of Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) has concluded the insurance interaction in Bhajani Municipality. In view of the fact that the state and local governments, farmers, insurance companies, banks and financial institutions, women, economic journalists, students, and common citizens and stakeholders can interact with the stakeholders as a powerful means to increase the access to insurance by providing necessary information, the Nepal Insurance Authority has been holding interaction programs with the state government, local level people’s representatives since last year. In the context of the interaction and discussion program with other stakeholders including the students, the NEA’s fiscal year 2080. In the approved annual program of 81, there is also a program to interact and discuss with the state and local governments, students, people’s representatives and other concerned bodies.

Similarly, The Nepal Insurance Authority, Sudurpaschim Province Office organized the interaction and discussion program in bhajani municipality of Kailali district in the presence of mayor Kewal Chaudhary and acting chief administrative officer of the municipality Surya Bahadur Singh.

Members of the municipality executive, ward chairmen and members, employees of the municipality, teachers of local schools, representatives of agriculture knowledge center and animal expert center, employees of the municipality, branch heads of life and non-life insurers, local businessmen and farmers, agents and other stakeholders participated in the program.

Bhajani Municipality is one of the 13 local levels in Kailali district. The total area of the village is 176 square kilometers. Mi. The municipality has a total population of 51,845 and is divided into nine wards.

The program was organized on May 22 with the objective of the interaction and discussion program related to insurance from the Nepal Insurance Authority, Far-Western Province Office, the brief introduction of the AUTHORITY, the functions, duties and jurisdiction of the AUTHORITY, the legal provisions related to insurance, the issues to be taken care of while insuring, the process of payment of life and life insurance claims and necessary documents, insurance activities carried out from the insurance sector, the role of the local level in the development of insurance and the local government to connect the general citizen with insurance. A working paper containing the issues of support from the AUTHORITY was presented. In addition, discussions were held on the issue of incorporating insurance in the budget and program of the local level in the policy form and the local level can encourage the common citizen to connect with insurance by providing subsidy on insurance fees.

On the occasion, Mayor of Bhajani Municipality Kewal Chaudhary inquired about how the farmers of Bhajani Municipality, Kailali, could be protected through agricultural insurance as it is one of the most flood-prone areas in kailali district.

Stating that the insurance of executive members and employees working in the municipality is being done by the municipality itself, the Chief made it clear that the NRA should take strong initiatives to solve the problems seen regarding the payment of insurance claims and would move ahead in coordination with the AUTHORITY for financial protection of the property and life of the citizens within the municipality.

On the occasion, the mayor also suggested that the insurance companies should work responsibly to make arrangements for the payment of insurance claims in a simple and easy manner and to increase the confidence of the general public in insurance.

On the occasion, the attendees stressed the need for nea to play a coordinating role to solve the problems of procedural hassles in payment of claims, low price of bangur and animal insurance at lower price than the market price, problems in documentation of engineering insurance, loss of confidence in insurance due to non-payment of corona insurance claims so far.

Responding to the questions raised in the program, Nra’s State Office Chief Kedar Nath Bhatta advised the insurers to take insurance with long-term thinking rather than pursuing short-term benefits to win the trust of the general public and to make the perception about insurance positive.

He also directed the branch heads of the insurers to provide insurance on the basis of the actual value of livestock and property and urged the participants to contact the state office of the NRA in case of any problem regarding insurance.

Requesting that the claim amount of corona insurance would be paid only after the release from the Government of Nepal, Office Chief Bhatta said that the NRA was always ready to provide necessary assistance in coordination with the municipality.
