Kathmandu. Johnson & Johnson has offered up to $5.5 billion in damages to settle thousands of lawsuits alleging that its baby powder and talcum products cause ovarian cancer.
The proposal is an attempt to end a major legal dispute that has been going on for years and has been under constant pressure from the New Jersey-based health care company. However, Johnson & Johnson has consistently denied the allegations.
The company claims that its talcum products do not cause cancer. The company has also changed the formula of its popular baby powder.
Eric Haas, vice president of the company’s litigation arm, said the allegations were “baseless”. “The company is only interested in resolving this long-standing dispute once and for all,” he said.
Johnson & Johnson said it would pay up to $3 billion next year until 2028 without any additional payments. –Agency
