Kathmandu. Rupandehi-based First Choice Foods Pvt. Ltd. has exported frozen french fries to the United States for the first time.
First Choice Foods Pvt. Ltd. has exported frozen French fries to GENTCO LLC DBA TCF Foods, an American company.
According to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, a total of 43,520 kilograms of potato worth Rs 5,488,158 (USD 38,480) was exported to the US. According to the customs office, the potatoes were packed in two containers and exported.
According to the industry, before the US, the export of frozen French fries had started in the Indian market as well.
First Choice Foods Pvt. Ltd., the largest French frying industry in Nepal, has the capacity to process 30 tons of potatoes a day. The industry has started contributing to foreign exchange earnings by substituting imports as well as exporting.
Nepal imports potatoes worth at least Rs 15 billion annually from India, Belgium and some other countries.
The potato products produced by this factory are being sold in superstores and shops including Bhatbhateni, Valley Cold Store, Sale Berry, Big Mart, Burger House, Sindhu Fresh Fossen Mart, among others.
