Kathmandu. Madhes Province government has implemented disaster and accident insurance to provide compensation of Rs 1 million to the families of those who lost their lives due to disasters or accidents.
The Ministry of State Sports and Social Welfare has provided such insurance facility through the “Citizen Insurance Program”.
According to State Minister Pramod Jaiswal, rs 1 million will be provided through the insurance company as compensation to the victim’s family in case of premature death due to a disaster or accident while in Nepal or on Indian soil.
He informed that an agreement has already been reached with the insurance company for such a facility.
This is probably the highest amount of insurance announced by the state governments to provide compensation of Rs 1 million per deceased family for disaster or accident.
Apart from this, under the “Mukhyamantri Surakshit Awas Yojana”, the families who have suffered loss due to disasters or accidents will get relief amount ranging from Rs 100,000 to Rs 525,000 per family through the insurance program.
Minister Jaiswal informed that this insurance scheme will bear a risk of around Rs 59 billion for the accident insurance of residential buildings and citizens of Madhes Province.
According to the state government, around 6.2 million people of eight districts of Madhes province will benefit from the disaster risk insurance.
