According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing a new feature called Status List. This will allow users to create a list of close friends and then easily share their status. This will ensure the privacy of the user.
The status list feature will allow users to create multiple lists and share their status with the ones they choose. This feature already exists on Instagram.
This feature is currently being developed for the Android app. WhatsApp will also roll out this feature for iOS. Which allows the user to create custom statuses.
To put it simply, WhatsApp status will be more personal like Instagram. You can set different audiences for different people.
