Kathmandu. Under its health insurance system, people from poor families and senior citizens aged 75 and over receiving social pension benefits will be paid for the full cost of medical check-up and treatment. It has come into effect from January 1.
According to Vietnam’s Health Ministry, the move follows a resolution passed by the National Assembly on December 11. The expanded coverage aims to improve access to healthcare and reduce the financial burden on vulnerable groups.
Pursuant to this proposal, the Ministry of Health issued an urgent notice on January 6 to the Vietnam Social Security under the Ministry of Finance, as well as the state and municipal health departments and medical facilities across the country. It called for immediate updating of benefit codes for newly eligible groups.
Under these changes, health insurance cardholders from poor families will get a refund of 95 percent to 100 percent of the medical expenses covered from January 1. – Agency
