Trade deficit near Rs 14.5 trillion, what is the status of import and export?

Kathmandu. The country’s trade deficit has reached close to Rs 14.5 trillion.

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has released the current fiscal year 2082. This is what the data of April 83 shows. The total merchandise trade deficit increased by 14.9 percent in the first 10 months. It has reached Rs 1,443.68 billion. Such deficit had increased by 9.6 per cent in the previous year. The export-import ratio reached 14.7 percent in the review period.

During the review period, the total merchandise exports increased by 14.2 percent to Rs. 248.96 billion. Such exports had grown by 72.7 percent in the same period of the previous year. Destination-wise, exports to India and other countries increased 16.1 percent and 9.5 percent respectively while exports to China decreased 41.7 percent in the review period.

Similarly, the total import of goods increased by 14.8 percent in the first 10 months of the current fiscal year. It has reached Rs 1,692.64 billion. Such imports had increased by 13.1 percent in the same period of the previous year. Destination-wise, imports from India, China and other countries increased 10.6 percent, 21.4 percent and 20.7 percent respectively.
