Kathmandu. Prasidha B. is an entrepreneur and development activist who has worked for more than three decades in the fields of infrastructure, telecommunications, industrial cooperation, investment, hospitality and tourism. Pandey has presented his concern about Nepal’s economic direction through the book Prime Minister and Prosperity: Getting Nepal to 100 Billion GDP. Based on his experience in various sectors of the economy, Pandey discusses the ways to convert Nepal’s potential into measurable economic achievement.
Pandey, the former president of Hotel Association of Nepal and currently the chairman of Shangri-La Hospitality Group, has spent a large part of his professional life in areas directly related to the economic development of Nepal. His professional journey includes playing a role in bringing international companies such as Alcatel and Mitsubishi to Nepal, contributing to the development of the telecommunications sector and collaborating on industrial projects that require coordination between policy, capital and implementation. He is also involved in the development of high-end hospitality and tourism infrastructure in Nepal.
In his new book, Pandey says that Nepal’s major economic challenge is the inability to convert national commitments and potential into production, exports, jobs, investment and public income. He has proposed a Prime Minister’s Delivery System with clear responsibilities, goals, deadlines and public reports on national priorities to make the Prime Minister’s Office more effective.
Presenting the GDP of USD 100 billion as a criterion for economic expansion, the book draws on the experiences of South Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bhutan and Singapore. Pandey concludes that effective implementation and coordinated governance system is necessary to transform Nepal’s geographical location, resources and potential into long-term economic growth.
Prime Minister and Prosperity: Getting Nepal to 100 Billion GDP was launched on the auspicious occasion of Janai Purnima through all major bookstores in Kathmandu as well as online portals including Amazon and Apple Books.
Prasidha B. Pandey has also pledged to donate all the proceeds from the sale of the book to the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund of the Government of Nepal.
