Kathmandu. Wildfires have doubled in size as they spread through remote parts of western Canada. As a result, thousands of people have been forced to move to safer places.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, the Bald Range Fire has spread to 95 square kilometres in British Columbia’s Summerland and Okanagan-Similkameen districts. “I’ve never seen a fire so quickly and so widely spread in a wildfire hazard area,” said Eric Thompson, emergency services officer for the Okanagan-Similkamin Regional District. ’
The fire has not been brought under control in the area as of Saturday morning. People in the Summerland district, which has a population of about 12,000, were ordered to evacuate their homes. Officials reported Saturday morning that power was also out across the region.
The surrounding Okanagan, Peachland and Okanagan-Similkameen districts have also issued evacuation orders for some areas. People in other areas have also been warned to be prepared for the possibility of empty spaces. –Agency
