According to maritime officials, all 21 crew members on board were safely rescued and there were no injuries. The ship is said to be carrying about 2,500 containers from Dubai. This includes iPhones and expensive perfumes.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that the ship was hit by a sea mine. However, maritime officials denied this claim, saying that the ship was hit by an unknown launch.

The shipwreck comes at a time of heightened tensions in Hormuz. This sea route is vital to the global supply of oil and LNG. About a fifth of the world’s oil and LNG passes through it.

Earlier on September 23, the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged cargo ship Cape Dao was also sunk after being hit by a launch near Hormuz. One crew member was killed in the incident and the others were rescued safely. – Agency
