Kathmandu. Last fiscal year 2082. A total of 42,000 patients suffering from severe diseases have received treatment in 83 of them.
According to the Health Insurance Board, a total of 42,131 patients suffering from serious diseases got treatment through health insurance in the last fiscal year. Most of the patients receiving treatment in this way are cancer patients.
In the last fiscal year, a total of 19,544 cancer patients had availed treatment under the health insurance scheme.
Similarly, kidney patients are the second most likely recipients of medical treatment. According to the Board, 12,824 kidney patients have availed treatment facilities.
Similarly, 6,829 people suffering from heart disease, 1,427 people with sickle cell anaemia, 942 people with spinal injury, 437 people with head injury, 82 people with Parkinsonism and 46 people with Alzheimer’s have got treatment under the health insurance scheme.
The government provides treatment facilities up to Rs 2 lakh for these 8 types of serious diseases. During the tenure of the then Health Minister Pradip Poudel, the treatment facility provided by the government for serious diseases was increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.
