Directive to compulsorily register online business, otherwise strict action will be taken

Kathmandu. The Department of Commerce, Supplies and Consumer Protection has issued a directive to compulsorily register online businesses.

The department issued a notice to this effect today. According to the Electronic Business (E-Commerce) Act, 2081, the entrepreneurs doing business through electronic means have to establish an electronic platform and the portal of the department should be listed before doing business.

The Department said its attention was drawn towards the complaints related to misleading consumers, fraud and selling sub-standard goods and services through the use of various electronic and digital payment systems. Therefore, the department has made it clear that all the businessmen and stakeholders conducting the business of goods and services through electronic means and platforms should be compulsorily listed in the department by fulfilling the prescribed process and should do business only by fully complying with the prevailing legal provisions.

The department has warned of taking stern legal action as per the Electronic Trade Act, 2081 and other prevailing laws if anyone is found operating business through illegal electronic platforms by ignoring this information.
