Rauniyar demands reduction in capital gains tax in stock market, gives 15-point suggestion to SEBON

Kathmandu. Former president of Nepal Investors’ Forum, Chhote Lal Rauniyar, has given a 15-point suggestion to the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) for the reform of the share market.

Rauniyar met with SEBON Chairman Dr. Gopal Bhatta today and suggested for the reform of the share market. Rauniyar has suggested reducing the capital gains tax on share trading from 5 percent to 4 percent for long-term (selling shares bought after one year) and from 7.5 percent to 6.5 percent for short-term shares. According to him, the daily turnover will increase to Rs 15-20 billion and the revenue received by the government will also increase.

Recently, the government increased the capital gains tax to 7.5 percent for the long term and 10 percent for the short term. Earlier, it was 5 percent for the long term and 7.5 percent for the short-term.

Likewise, share investor Rauniyar also suggested SEBON to make arrangements for the banks and financial institutions to buy and sell shares in the secondary market without any hindrance. He also said that the existing 6-month provision needs to be removed immediately.
