Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudan Gurung has resigned from his post. Gurung had been heavily criticized for linking his name with various businessmen while buying shares of a micro insurance company in recent times.
Gurung wrote a status on his Facebook page today and informed that he has resigned from the post of Home Minister effective from today. “I, Sudan Gurung, have been working honestly as the Home Minister since March 27, 2082,” he wrote, adding, “I have taken seriously the questions, comments and public concerns raised on my share and other issues from the citizen level in the recent days.” ’
“Morality is the biggest thing for him and there is no power greater than public trust,” Gurung said. “Today, the Jenji movement, which is rising in the country demanding good governance, transparency and accountability, has given the same message: public life should be clean and leadership should be accountable,” he wrote. ’
“Therefore, I have tendered my resignation from the post of Home Minister effective today so that there is no conflict of interest while in the post so that there is no impact on an impartial investigation into the matter concerning me,” Gurung said in the statement.
Gurung said, “I have fulfilled my moral responsibility. Now, my appeal to all media friends, dear Nepali brothers and sisters, sisters and youths, if we really want change, we must all stand on the path of truth, honesty and self-purification. How many media people have a sweet share of their friends, it will come slowly, those who aspire for Ram Rajya should also show sacrifice and moral courage. ’
