Kathmandu. The standard of Nepali passports has declined globally. The Henley Passport Index for the year 2026 has dropped two places in the world’s passport standard.
In 2025, Nepal’s passport was ranked 94th. In the year 2026, it has dropped two places to 96th position. According to the report, Nepal’s passport allows visa-free travel to 35 countries. In the year 2025, a Nepali passport holder could travel to 38 countries without a visa.
In the year 2026, the passport level of neighboring country India has increased to 80th position. Last year, India’s passport was ranked 85th. Passport holders of India can travel to 55 countries without a visa. It is bordered by India, Algeria and Niger.
In 2026, Singapore’s passport became the most powerful in the world. Singapore’s passport holder can travel visa-free to 192 out of 227 destinations in the world.
After Singapore, Japan and South Korea have the second most powerful passports in the world. The passport of these countries allows you to travel to 188 countries without a visa.
Denmark, Luxembourg, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland are in third place. Passport holders from these countries can travel visa-free to 186 countries.
Passports from Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway are in fourth place. Passport holders of these countries have visa-free travel to 185 destinations.
Passports from Hungary, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and the UAE are in fifth place with 184 visa-free destinations.
The Henley Passport Index ranks passports around the world based on visa-free entry. That is, the passport of the country whose passport can be used to travel to most destinations for visa free is the most powerful. This index has been prepared on the basis of special data obtained from the International Air Transport Association.
Afghanistan has the weakest passport in the world. At the bottom of the list, passport holders can travel visa-free to only 24 countries.
