Kathmandu. Australian insurance companies have made their highest ever claim payments under the 2024 health benefit.
According to a report by Private Health Services Australia, published in November 2025, Australia’s insurance companies paid out about AU$9.4 billion in health benefits in the 12 months to December 2024. According to the ‘Annual Hospital High Claims 2025’ report, the health fund paid a total of 453,259 hospital high claims in 2024. Which is the highest ever. This is an increase of 9 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
Higher claims refer to claims where the total insurance company benefit payment exceeds AU$10,000. High claims accounted for 50.4 percent of all hospital benefits paid in 2024. That’s an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to June 2023.
According to Private Health Services Australia, this increase reflects the increasing difficulty and cost of hospital care in Australia.
