NRA Koshi Province holds discussion on insurance in Shahidbhumi Rural Municipality

Kathmandu. Nepal Insurance Authority, Koshi Province organized a discussion and interaction program on insurance at Shahidbhumi Rural Municipality in Dhankuta district today. Discussions and interactions were held on issues such as access to insurance at the local level, claim process, provision of grants and current challenges.

Assistant Director of Nepal Insurance Authority, Koshi Province Office, Sachin Rai gave a presentation on various topics of insurance. The participants of the program raised questions such as the basis and rate of insurance of government building, possible fraud through agents, different arrangements for distribution of medicines in livestock insurance and whether the payment of third-party motor insurance claim can be phased out.

Chief guest of the program, Chairman of Shahidbhumi Rural Municipality Manoj Rai pointed out the need to reach information about insurance to farmers and the general public.

He said that such programs are useful as insurance is a means of protection. Vice-chairperson of the rural municipality Ratnashwori Rai said the insurance awareness programme would have a big impact on the community and urged the people to insure not only human beings but also livestock, crops and physical infrastructures.

Chief Administrative Officer of the rural municipality, Surya Bahadur Bhandari, said that the rural municipality has received extensive information about the insurance process and its access within a short span of time.

Nepal Insurance Authority Koshi Province Chief Preeti Dev insisted that all insurance services should be received only through licensed companies and authorized persons.

She said that there is an arrangement for online complaint to be lodged through the Insurance Authority of Nepal in case of complaint. She said the government would provide 50 to 80 per cent subsidy in the agriculture sector, adding that direct coordination could be made with the NRA if there is any doubt on the recommendation.

He also urged people to be patient as it will take some time to assess the damage in private insurance. Employees, insurers, insurance agents and local people were present on the occasion.
