Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: An MoU has been signed between the Insurance Authority of Nepal (NIA) and the Central Department of Statistics, Tribhuvan University (TU), to establish a mechanism for research and knowledge exchange on insurance. Chief of Central Department of Statistics at Tribhuvan University Prabhat Uprety and Janak Raj Sharma, chairman of Insurance Authority, signed the agreement to this effect at the central office in Kupandole today.
On the occasion, Chairman of the Insurance Authority Janak Raj Sharma said that the agreement would help to advance research on insurance and to acquire data on insurance required for the Authority. Sharma expressed the belief that the bilateral collaboration would be further expanded in the days to come in the context of newer research and new technologies being developed in the world.
Prabhat Upreti, head of the Central Department of Statistics at Tribhuvan University, expressed the belief that the bilateral MoU would help researchers and students in research and exchange of knowledge related to insurance.
According to the agreement, research will be carried out on the situation, effectiveness and challenges of the insurance sector, insurance policy, access to insurance, need for new insurance policy, contribution of insurance sector to sustainable development, government policy related to insurance and financial sector, among others.
Similarly, the Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) will identify areas related to insurance. According to the agreement, the Central Department of Statistics will provide experts for insurance research on the basis of the priority of the Authority, exchange data for academic and research and conduct training on insurance research.
Managing Director of Nepal Insurance Authority Sushil Dev Subedi, Director Pujan Dhungel Adhikari, Director Kundan Sapkota, Director Shambha Raj Lamichhane, Director Nirmal Adhikari and TU Chairman were present on the occasion. Central Department of Statistics Lecturer Arun Yadav and Srijan Lal Shrestha were also present on the occasion.
