Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA) has sought clarification from the Insurance Company after it failed to pay its claim even after two months of agreeing to mediation.
Out of the complaints filed against Asian Life Insurance regarding insurance claims ranging from millions to crores of rupees, the mediation management section of the Authority called the mediation management section of the Authority for discussion with the victims. After examining the complaints received from the insured parties, the authority had summoned Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dinesh Lal Shrestha and Chief of the Claims Department Prakash Khanal to the office to inquire about the complaint.
During the discussion, the NEA had to warn CEO Shrestha to pay the claim at the earliest as the claim application was stuck for a long time, the insured could not submit the evidence that he could not get the claim and the insured was not informed in writing about the progress of the claim.
During the discussion held at the mediation management section of the authority, CEO Shrestha, who had agreed that there was no problem in paying the insurance claim amount and that it would be paid soon, did not inform the authority or the insured party after that.
The NRA is under pressure due to continuous inquiries from the aggrieved party after the authority asked for information from the claim department about the progress of claim payment as per the mediation agreement by giving a fake response that it was under investigation. The NRA has sought clarification from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for ignoring the directive for mediation.
The Authority had mediated to pay the claim to the insured party as per the terms and conditions of the policy after the Asian Life Insurance Company failed to provide clear reasons and evidence that the insured party could not get the claim paid.
