Kathmandu. Nepal Insurance Authority (NEA) has also included potato farming in its vegetable farming policy.
The authority has included 6 types of potato farming and vegetable farming in the insurance policy. This will provide relief to potato farmers. Potato farmers will now be compensated for the loss caused by any type of pestic-borne disease or natural calamity.
The NRA has amended the Schedule 1 of the Vegetable Farming Insurance Policy to include the exclusion of potato cultivation. According to the revised details, the NEA has included Potato TPS, Potato Janakdev, Potato Desiree, Potato Cardinal, Potato Rosita and Potato local. These are seasonal and single crop pickles.
According to NEA, the productivity of potato TPS is 30 metric tonnes per hectare, Janakdev 30 metric ton, Desiree 15 metric ton, Cardinal 20 metric ton, Rosita 15 metric ton and local 15 metric ton. The child duration of these potato varieties is 110-120 days, 110 days, 90-120 days, 80-110 days, 120-140 days and 90-120 days respectively.
The NRA has also directed all non-life insurance companies to determine the insurance policy of potato cultivation as per the vegetable farming insurance policy.
