Talks with Asian Institute of Technology (AIIT) to collaborate on disaster management in Nepal

Kathmandu. Bangkok: The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) based in Bangkok, Thailand and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) have discussed collaborating on disaster management in Nepal.

Executive Chief of NRA Dinesh Bhatta and AIT School of Engineering and Technology Dean Professor Sangam Shrestha held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the need for collaboration to study avalanche, landslide, flood and other natural disasters in Nepal.

They also discussed the development of an AI model to study the detailed damage of the houses and buildings damaged by the earthquake.  Discussions were also held on the issue of facilitating the students of AIT University to get an internship at the Authority. Prof Shrestha said that an agreement has been reached between the NRA and the University to take forward the collaboration by signing an agreement.

After the discussion, CEO Bhatta also visited the Hydraulics Lab and AI and Simulation Lab at Water Engineering and Management (WEM) of the University.

The use of artificial intelligence in cross-border information exchange and the use of drones in disaster study and research were also discussed during the visit.

Bhatta also visited the Asian Institute of Technology (AIIT) in Bangkok to attend a meeting of the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center.
