Bangladesh: Non-life insurers are yet to pay 92% of claims

Kathmandu. A large number of claims are yet to be paid from non-life insurance companies in Bangladesh.

According to the second quarter report of 2025 published by the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority of Bangladesh (IDRA), non-life insurance companies have paid only 8.30 percent of the total claims. While 91.70 percent of insurance claims are yet to be paid.

According to the report, the state-owned insurance and reinsurance company General Insurance Corporation has the highest number of claims due till the second quarter of 2025. According to the report, the outstanding amount of insurance claims is Tk 20.75 billion (local currency).

On the other hand, in the private sector, Green Delta Insurance has the highest number of insurance claims to be paid. The remaining amount is Rs 2.70 billion. The company is yet to pay 94.21% of the total insurance claims. Similarly, 92.33 percent of claims of Pragati Insurance and 92.31 percent of Reliance Insurance are yet to be paid.

According to the report, claims worth Rs 36.04 billion were made by non-life insurance companies. Out of this, the companies have paid claims worth Tk 3.01 billion.
