Qualcomm has launched its new smartphone processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm processing technology, the chip elevates mobile performance to a new level.

Increase in power: This chip is about 20% more powerful in performance than the previous version.

graphics and AI: The upgraded Adreno GPU improved graphics performance by 23%, while the Hexagon NPU significantly improved AI processing speed by 37%.

According to Qualcomm’s announcement, AI will now be the ‘new UI’. This means that users will be able to perform complex tasks directly through voice through agentic AI. Major OEMs including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Honor have already committed to using this processor in their upcoming flagship smartphones.

New power and ‘impenetrable’ security in PC

In addition to mobiles, Qualcomm also introduced Snapdragon X2 Elite and X2 Elite Extreme processors for light and light laptops. These CPUs include up to 18 cores and deliver up to 75% faster performance than competing chips at the same power consumption. But the biggest strategic difference is its Guardian security technology.

Enterprise’s Game Changer: This security technology can use 5G modem connectivity to perform remote device management and location tracking even when the PC is powered off.

Challenges to Intel: According to industry analysts, this capability is revolutionary for enterprise IT departments. This gives Qualcomm a unique competitive advantage over Intel, which relies on traditional technologies in the corporate PC market.

Ecosystem Strategy and Market Response

Qualcomm is now transitioning from a chip-only supplier to an ecosystem operator focused on AI and cross-device integration. The effort to make the Android desktop environment available on Snapdragon’s PCs in collaboration with Google is a testimony to this.

Qualcomm’s shares rose 2.4% after the announcement. Analysts believe the company’s growing focus on AI PCs, automotive technology, and advanced security will redefine its market value. Qualcomm’s automotive segment already aims to reach 48 billion by 2029, approaching quarterly revenue of 41 billion.

Qualcomm is sending a clear message that it is ready to take on both Apple and Intel in both the mobile and enterprise PC markets with its advanced chips, deep integration into AI, and innovative security features.
