Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Kul Man Ghising has taken the first decision to clear the arrears of dedicated trunk line of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
Ghising, when he was the managing director of NEA, had tried to recover dues from the industries for dedicated and trunk lines. There was also a dispute between the then government and Ghising over this issue. Eventually, the then government decided to remove him from the authority.
After the Zenji movement, the government in Nepal has been overturned. An interim government has been formed under the leadership of former justice Sushila Karki.
As the managing director of NEA, Ghising had repeatedly urged the industries to pay the dues of dedicated trunk line. For this, he also provided the facility of installment.
According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), there are 61 industries and consumers of dedicated and trunk line dues of around Rs 22 billion. An official of NEA said, “We are yet to clear the electricity dues of three dedicated and trunk lines, which is more than Rs 16 billion.
The official said that the authority will move ahead in a procedural manner as the task of collecting arrears from the minister has now been prioritized.
