Kathmandu. The government has formed a three-member recommendation committee to elect the chairman of Nepal Insurance Authority( INSURANCEA).
A three-member committee was formed under the coordination of National Planning Commission Vice-Chairman Prof Dr Shivaraj Adhikari. Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and Expert Member Dr Khomraj Kharel are the members of the committee.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers had on September 28 sacked sharad ojha, the then chairman of the NRA, for not having the qualifications related to work experience. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on February 17 had appointed Ojha, who hails from Kanchanpur, as the chairman.
Following Ojha’s dismissal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance, Sevtak Pokharel, has been appointed as the acting chairman of the government.
There is no provision in the Insurance Act 2079 regarding the appointment of a caretaker or interim chairman in case the chairman of the AUTHORITY is relieved before the completion of his term. Although there is no provision in the Act regarding the appointment of acting chairpersons, the Council of Ministers has been appointing board members of the AUTHORITY representing the Ministry of Finance as chairpersons.
The Finance Ministry has not yet taken any initiative to amend the Act to correct the shortcomings in the Act.
