Kathmandu. Met Life Nepal has partnered with Kankai Sahara Snakebite Treatment Center in Jhapa. The company has launched an initiative under its Corporate Social Responsibility program to address the growing risk of snakebite in the region.

The company is providing this support keeping in mind that rising temperatures and agricultural lifestyle in the district have increased the risk to communities, especially in rural areas.

Crest

Snakebite is a public health problem in Nepal, which kills hundreds every year, especially in districts like Jhapa. Due to limited awareness, lack of timely treatment and lack of adequate health facilities, snakebite causes most deaths and long-term health problems. These data suggest that there is an urgent need for both preventive education and improved access to treatment in vulnerable communities.

The program aims to increase knowledge about snakebite prevention and immediate response in the community, provide easy access to treatment facilities to rural residents of the central part of Jhapa, and ultimately reduce the number of deaths due to snakebite.

Supporting the Centre’s efforts, MetLife Nepal will contribute to awareness-raising campaigns, encourage preventive measures, and strengthen access to timely life-saving treatment.

“Snakebite is a serious but often overlooked public health problem in rural Nepal. By collaborating with Kankai Sahara Snakebite Treatment Centre, we are committed to ensuring our community not only the necessary knowledge to prevent snakebite but also access to essential treatment on time. This is our main goal to build a safe and healthy future for all Nepalis,” said Nirmal Kaji Shrestha, General Manager, MetLife Nepal.
