Khatiwada has resigned following the error in the Civil Service Bill (Cooling Period). He, however, said he had no vested interest in the cooling period and the inquiry committee did not find him guilty.

A probe committee led by Nepali Congress lawmaker Jeevan Pariyar was formed after the issue of errors in the bill came to light. The committee had prepared the report declaring Khatiwada politically and morally responsible and that the cooling period would be ineffective.
