Kathmandu. The Bagmati state government has decided to declare a public holiday on August 15. The state government has decided to declare a public holiday across the state on Sunday on the occasion of Gai Jatra festival.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, the decision has been approved by the meeting of the State Council of Ministers and published in the State Gazette.
Public offices, educational institutions and private organizations in Bagmati province will remain closed today.
Gai Jatra is a major cultural festival celebrated by the Newar community in different parts of Bagmati Province, including the Kathmandu Valley. This festival, which is celebrated as a symbol of father’s remembrance, has a tradition of visiting the neighborhood in the form of a cow.
