India overtakes Japan to become world’s fifth largest aviation market

Kathmandu. India is the fastest growing economy in the world. At the same time, India’s aviation market is also growing rapidly.

India is now the fifth largest aviation market in the world. It has achieved this feat by overtaking Japan.

The Mumbai-Delhi route is ranked seventh in the list of the world’s busiest air routes. This has come to light in the world air traffic statistics of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), an organization of airline companies. IATA includes about 350 airline companies around the world.

According to the report, the number of air passengers in India increased by 11.1 percent in 2024 compared to 2023. The total number of air passengers during this period was 211 million. That’s more than Japan. In 2024, 205 million passengers travelled by air to Japan. However, the annual growth rate of air passengers in Japan was 18.6 percent.

The United States is the world’s largest aviation market. In 2024, 876 million passengers traveled by air in the United States.

China is second in this list. Last year, 741 million people traveled by air in China. Which is 18.7 percent more than 2023.

The UK (261 million passengers) and Spain (241 million passengers) are third on the list.

According to the IATA, the Asia-Pacific region dominates the list of the world’s busiest air routes. South Korea’s Jeju-Seoul route became the world’s most popular air route in 2024. A total of 13.2 million passengers travelled on this route. On a daily basis, the number is more than 36,000. – Agency
