Kathmandu. India’s Special Task Force (ATF) has busted a racket of insuring elderly people by showing their age by using fake documents.

After the arrest of eight members of the gang from Bhojipura, the ATF has exposed the incident of insurance fraud. The accused used to insure 80-85 year olds by showing them 47-48 years of age and take claims after their death. The STF has recovered claim forms, Aadhaar, PAN cards, certificates, postage stamps and many other materials from the accused. The STF had been taking information about making claims through wrong insurance for a long time. Different teams were involved in the search for it.

The STF had received information that some members of the gang were on the highway in Bhojipura. A team reached the spot and arrested eight accused from the spot.

During interrogation, the arrestees revealed the names of Rahul Gihar of Kanchanpur village of Bhojipura, Jagdish of Pipalsana Chaudhary, Surendra Gangwar of Modern village, Bunty, Narendra alias Nandu of Pipalsana, Sandeep of Madinath of Subhash Nagar, Basit of Dioria of Bhojipura and Prabhakar Tripathi of Aero City. They said that only people between the ages of 18 and 50 years can be insured under the Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana. However, the accused used to insure the elderly aged between 80-85 years by making fake Aadhaar cards and other documents by showing their age less.

When the person died after insurance, the members of this gang used to take claims from the insurance company. In this way, it has been revealed that the accused have falsely insured about 1,500 people and cheated crores of rupees.

Of the files submitted to LIC, many were found to have been insured a few days before the death of the person concerned. After the payment of all such files was stopped, an investigation was launched and the truth came out. In many files, it was found that people aged 80-85 years were insured only by showing the age of 45-48 years.

During the STF interrogation, it was revealed that the gang members Rahul, Jagdish, Narendra alias Nandu, Surendra and Bunty used to fill the form of insurance scheme for local people. Basit and Fahim alias Guddu of his village used to prepare fake Aadhaar cards.

Sandeep, Yogesh and Prabhakar Tripathi, who worked as surveyors in the respective insurance companies, used to charge Rs 30,000 in the name of showing young age to the elderly and send the report stating the correct age. Then insurance was done.

Prabhakar Tripathi used to tell his name Anil to hide his identity. They used to submit files by attaching fake death certificates, copies of family registration and Aadhaar cards. – Agency
