Kathmandu. The Department of Internal Revenue has suspended the value added tax (VAT) registration of nearly 100,000 taxpayers who have not submitted their tax returns.
The Department has issued a public notice on May 15 suspending vat registration of taxpayers who have not filed tax returns for the last six months. The department has also made public the list of suspended taxpayers.
Earlier, the department had given a 15-day ultimatum to taxpayers who did not submit their tax returns. In the notice, he was asked to regularize the transaction by contacting the Internal Revenue Office or taxpayer service office where his business is registered.
According to the Department, vat registration has been suspended as per the decision of the Department on May 9 after most of the taxpayers failed to submit such details within the stipulated time. The Department has informed all concerned not to buy and sell taxpayers who have been suspended in this way.
The department has made a provision that the suspended taxpayer will be automatically removed from the ‘suspended list’ after submitting the tax return for all periods if he wants to register the transaction regularly by submitting the tax return.
