India: Debt-ridden brother killed after receiving Rs 9.5 million in insurance

Kathmandu. In neighbouring India, another incident of defaming humanity has come to light. Sambhal: A youth in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district allegedly murdered his brother to get insurance money.

It has been revealed that the debt-ridden youth had conspired to grab Rs 9.5 million of insurance money by showing a road accident by killing his disabled brother. The young man was supported by lawyers and postal workers in this ambitious plan.

Naveen, a resident of Islamnagar under Islamnagar police station, had taken a loan of Rs 450,000. He was in debt. Naveen had planned the murder with the help of lawyer Akhilesh (insurance agent) of the same place and postal worker Raju.

Initially, Sanjay was insured in the scheme of all three. They then hatched a plan to show sanjay a road accident by killing him to get the insurance money. Naveen had made an insurance policy of Rs 95 lakh in his brother Sanjay’s companies including Tata AIG, SBI General, ICICI Lombard among others. These policies were formulated between November 2023 and May 2024.

The incident took place on June 20. On the pretext of getting treatment, Naveen was taking Sanjay through Islamnagar-Bahjoi road in an e-rickshaw. Naveen pushed Sanjay out of the e-rickshaw on a deserted road near Maugaon. Sanjay was bleeding. Naveen then threatened the e-rickshaw driver and drove him away. Sanjay was killed by repeatedly banging his head on the road.

And Naveen sat a little further away. Later, when the crowd was crowded, Naveen also reached. Sanjay, who was bleeding on naveen road, said that he was his brother. And he took Sanjay to Bahjoi CHC in an ambulance and there the doctor declared Sanjay dead.

Navi then lodged an accident report at Bahjoi Than. When the evidence was not found, the police imposed an FR.

Naveen went to the company to stake a claim. However, Tata AIG got angry and informed the police. Naveen kept all of Sanjay’s insurance policy nominees to himself.

Police investigation revealed that Sanjay had been living with his brother Naveen after his divorce from his wife. Navin, who was in debt, was facing a lot of problems as his disabled brother Sanjay had been living with him for a long time.

All three have been arrested in connection with the incident. In his statement to the police, Naveen said that on the advice of Akhilesh and Raju, he insured his brother Sanjay and reduced the incident to get the same insurance amount.
