Kathmandu. The Association of Economic Journalists (NAFIJ) of Nepal has provided accident insurance cover to its 274 members. NAFIZ has provided ‘Group Accident Insurance’ to its members, advisors and employees who were retained in the last AGM.
Nafees had provided group accident insurance to its 235 members on January 9, 2081 in collaboration with Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance (SALICO) and Siddhartha Premier Insurance. This year, the policy has been renewed and 274 people have been insured. This includes new members of NAFIZ who were added in August last year.
The policy will come into effect from January 15, 2019. The total sum insured is Rs 19.18 crore. According to the insurance policy, each person has been insured at the rate of seven lakh rupees.
Menuka Karki, chairperson of NAFIJ, said that NAFIZ has given continuity to the accident insurance to provide security to its members who are on duty to report. “We had insured the members last year as well. Two members who were injured in the accident had received the claim payment,” she said, “Various agitations in the last one year have further increased the importance of insurance among journalists.” There are all kinds of risks in the field, journalists are deployed in the field by taking such risks. In view of this, we have renewed the accident insurance of the members. ’
If the insured members are injured due to any reason, the insurance will bear the medical treatment expenses. The insurance policy will also cover death due to accident, funeral expenses, funeral expenses, permanent total disability, permanent partial disability and temporary total disability.
