Why did the protests intensify in the UK?

Kathmandu. Violence erupted in London on Saturday at a demonstration organised by far-right activist Tommy Robinson. About 1.5 lakh people participated in this demonstration.

According to police, some people threw bottles and other objects at police during the demonstration, called ‘Unite the Kingdom’. As a result, 26 police personnel were injured. The condition of 4 of them is said to be critical.

Elon Musk, the owner of social media company X, addressed the gathering in Whitehall via video link. On the other hand, there was a protest against this demonstration by ‘Stand Up to Racism’. About 5,000 people participated.

According to the police, 25 people have been arrested so far under various crimes. Police have described the violence as “completely unacceptable”. Heavy security arrangements were made in London in view of this demonstration. A scuffle broke out when police used batons to push back Robinson’s supporters.

Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon) addressed the crowd and criticized politicians. He also claimed that British courts had ruled that the rights of undocumented immigrants were above the rights of “local communities”.

Last month, the Court of Appeal overturned an order preventing asylum seekers from being held at The Bell Hotel in Epping, Essex.
