Kathmandu. The World Health Organization has appealed for $8 million in immediate aid to help people affected by the earthquake in Myanmar.
The earthquake has killed about 1,700,000 people and injured thousands more. The death toll is expected to rise.
The United Nations agency has said that support is needed in the next 30 days to restore essential health services, treat the injured and prevent the spread of disease.
The earthquake that struck Myanmar on March 28 was also felt in neighboring Thailand. The death toll in Thailand has reached 18.
