Kathmandu. Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav has said that sustainable and inclusive drinking water projects in the country would be taken forward more vigorously in the coming days. Inaugurating the Mega Power Drinking Water Project at Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-16 in Makawanpur district today, Minister Yadav said the government would take forward sustainable and inclusive drinking water projects in a more powerful manner to provide safe drinking water to the Nepali citizens.
“The government is making every effort to provide clean, safe and pure drinking water to the Nepali people. We will vigorously pursue sustainable and inclusive drinking water projects. ”
Similarly, Minister Yadav said that the government has been placing drinking water sector in the list of national priorities as per the belief that it is the fundamental right of every citizen to get clean, safe and adequate drinking water.
“With the vision of clean water for all, the government is committed to providing safe, quality and adequate drinking water to every citizen’s home in line with the Sustainable Development Goals( SDGs). The drinking water and sanitation sector will be made strong, inclusive and long-term solution-oriented,” he said.
Addressing the programme, Minister Yadav said he was confident that the people of the area would be able to use safe, clean and pure drinking water from the Shakti Khola under the Greater Power Drinking Water Project inaugurated today. “Water from Shakti Khola source will be stored and distributed in the higher reaches of the area through pumping system,” he said. Its water resources will be derived from rain and surrounding small shelters and groundwater sources, and the areas around the river will be suitable for agriculture and settlements. ”
Deepak Bahadur Singh, special guest of the programme and member of the House of Representatives, said that the Greater Power Drinking Water Project is the embodiment of a deep-minded and long-term plan to provide clean and safe water to thousands of households in hetauda and surrounding areas.
Director at the Department of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management, Ram Kumar Shrestha, said joint efforts of all three levels of the federal, provincial and local levels are necessary to achieve the sustainable development goals of drinking water and sanitation.
