Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has offered to sell short video app TikTok to China. He has said he could cut tariffs imposed on China to secure a deal to sell the app.
TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, ByteDance. Trump has also said he is ready to extend the deadline to April 5 to find a non-Chinese buyer for the platform.
Earlier, the Biden administration passed a law to ban TikTok. However, the implementation of this law was postponed after Trump came to power in January.
This law was enacted in 2024. National security was cited as a reason for selling or banning it. “China has to play a role on TikTok. I think they will. Maybe I can lower the tariffs a little bit or something, so that it can be done,” Trump told reporters.
Trump also said he hopes to have a framework for an agreement on the issue ready by the April 5 deadline. –Agency
