Kathmandu. US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order directing officials to dismantle the Department of Education.
Trump had promised this during his election campaign. After signing the order on Thursday, Trump said, “We are closing it as quickly as possible. It is not helping us.”
Trump has long demanded the abolition of the department. However, to completely close it, it would require the approval of the US Parliament Congress. Which is unlikely.
Trump’s move faces legal challenges from those seeking to block the closure of the agency and deep staff cuts announced last week. Trump said, “America spends more money on education than any other country, but student success is very low.”
The Department of Education is responsible for administering federal student loans to college and university students and providing aid to low-income and physically disabled students. –Agency
