Kathmandu. Today (July 9) may be the shortest day in earth’s history. Scientists say that due to this strange event, the speed of the earth’s rotation on its axis has increased more than ever before.

Scientists have predicted that July 22 and August 5 will be 1.3-1.51 milliseconds shorter than normal. On these days, the Moon will be the farthest from the Earth’s equator.

Scientists have attributed the changes in the earth’s rotational speed to the weakening of the earth’s magnetic field, the position of the moon, the melting of glaciers and the activities in the earth’s interior.

Richard Holme, a geophysicist at the University of Liverpool, said scientists analyzed the atomic clocks in 2020 and 2022 and found that the earth’s orbit was increasing. Atomic clocks use the vibrations of atoms to measure time. On July 5 last year, scientists recorded a day of less than 24 hours.

Scientists say the day is getting shorter due to an unexpected increase in the speed in which the Earth rotates on its axis. However, this change during the day will be of milliseconds. Which is not possible for the common man to feel and will not make any difference in daily life. Experts say that even this small change will affect satellite systems, GPS and the way time is tracked.

The solar day lasts exactly 86,400 seconds i.e. 24 hours. However, the earth’s orbit history has been unstable. Especially since 2020, the earth has started rotating rapidly. Due to this, the time of day is decreasing to less than 24 hours. Earthquakes and ocean currents are usually the causes of changes in the earth’s rotation.

Scientists believe that if this trend of change in the earth’s orbit continues, then in the next 50 billion years, the earth’s orbit will be similar to the moon’s orbit. If this happens, only one part of the moon will always be visible. That is, it will be visible only in half of the planet. However, it will be a very long time, and by then much will have changed on Earth. – Agency
