Kathmandu. Beekeeping is now a good source of income for farmers. Farmers have been earning a lot of money from beekeeping in recent times.
Although the return on investment in beekeeping is good, there is also a lot of risk. For this reason, the Nepal Insurance Authority has issued a bee insurance policy to make the beekeeping business of farmers safe and reliable.
The insured must have an accident insurance of at least 200,000 rupees. Insurance covers fire, floods, landslides, lightning, accidental accidents, wild animal attacks, diseases, pests or damage caused by pesticides. The insurance also covers damage to the hive while transporting bees to pasture.
A bee insurance policy costs Rs 200. No subsidy will be available for this insurance policy.
Technical arrangements have been made regarding bee insurance policies. In which the conditions to be followed by the insured are mentioned.
These are the conditions
- Each beehive must be marked in a safe or clearly visible manner and the cost will be borne by the insurer.
- For beekeeping around beekeeping Appropriate arrangements should be made.
- Regular inspection of the insured beehive and proper feeding arrangements should be made.
- The beehive should be managed in a way that is safe from adverse weather conditions.
- If the insured beehive is affected by any disease or insect, it should be immediately taken care of, monitored and treated at its own expense and its records or details should be kept securely.
- Insurance policies for new beehives will not be issued during the period from Mangsir 15 to Magh 15.
- Only beehives reared in modern hives will be insured.
- The beehive must be constructed with at least 5 frames.
- The food required by bees and beehives (artificial honey, sugar syrup and candy) must be two safe should be kept.
- The distance between one hive and another should be at least 1.5 meters.
- Bees raised in a beehive that is more than 5 years old will not be insured.
- A record of the technical arrangements to be followed while raising bees should be kept.
