Kathmandu. Shiva Kumar Karki is a person who has taken every difficulty in life as an opportunity. Born in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-10 of Makawanpur, Shiva is currently living in Hetauda-4. He has completed his post-graduation in Sales and Marketing.
Born in 2037 BS, Shiva had a happy childhood in a middle-class family. “My father was employed in the municipality and my mother was employed in the forest office, so I did not have to face any kind of trouble in the family since childhood,” he said. ’
Shiva completed his SLC from his native place in 2051 BS. After that, he completed his plus two and bachelor’s degree from Hetauda and completed his post-graduation from Sikkim Manipal University.
Currently, Shiva is the Chief Business Officer of Citizen Life Insurance Company. Shiva supervises the company’s 19 branch offices in Hetauda area.
Shiva has been carrying out the responsibilities of implementing area branch managers, branch heads, employees, agents by following the policy legal provisions of insurance in the branches under his area, following the directives of the regulatory body, reporting, arranging various trainings from time to time for capacity development of area, branch chiefs, agents and employees, working to fulfill the business objectives of the company, planning the work, etc. Not only this, he also organizes programs to increase insurance education and insurance awareness by visiting different places in his area to expand everyone’s access to insurance.

Despite spending his childhood happily, Shiva started working in an electricity shop to learn work while doing plus two. He then started his own electricity shop while he was a graduate. “I did good business at that time,” he said, adding, “The business flourished a lot for 10 years after i started the shop.” The business at that time was very good in the present situation. Business is not always the same, sometimes there is a loss and sometimes there is a profit. There is never business. We also have to be satisfied with that. That’s it. ’
Shiva, who was immersed in his own business, was inspired by his friend Ganesh Chaulagain to join the insurance business along with the shop. Shiva’s friend Ganesh was already a branch manager in prime life. After that, a friend also told Shiva, ‘Come to insurance, work part-time in the insurance sector with the shop, it is good, the insurance sector is also a profession of social well-being.’ You also have a well-known friend circle,” he said. With the inspiration and encouragement of his friends, Shiva decided to go to the insurance sector. In the sense of ‘helping my friends’, he started working as an agency manager in a short time by getting a license as an agent in the then Prime Life from 2064.
Before he came to the insurance sector, Shiva knew about insurance. He had already got his insurance done in 2058 BS. He also did a thesis on the status of life insurance in Makanpur district while studying at the undergraduate level. In this sense too, Shiva had knowledge of insurance. He says that various positive aspects, including the field of insurance charitable services, have attracted Shiva.
Within two years of working as an agency manager in prime life, Shiva was promoted to the role of branch manager. Although he always prioritized his work and responsibilities, he achieved both professional and personal achievements within a short time of entering the insurance sector. He worked as a branch manager for four and a half years in the then Prime Life.
Shiva then decided to leave the insurance sector for some time. He left the insurance sector and returned to the shop. In the meantime, he started two shops. One is an electric and the other is a mobile shop.

After that, 10 new companies were opened in the Nepali insurance market in 2074 BS. With the opening of the new company, the friends who first worked with Shiva became involved in these 10 new companies. And Shiva told his friends he knew, ‘Tell me if there is a place anywhere’.
Shiva was also interested in working in new companies, new teams and companies with new energy. After that, Poet Phuyal was called a company with energy by Shiva if he could enter the citizen, after which Phuyal talked for the branch manager. After completing all the policies and regulations of the company, Shiva joined the branch manager of Citizen Life in 2074 BS.
Shiva, who has professional knowledge, also performed well in the insurance sector. Two years after becoming branch manager, Shiva became the branch manager. Two years later, he became the area regional manager again. Since then, he has been working as chief business officer. Shiva has now achieved success by facing various challenges, obstacles and obstacles.
Asked why he would choose Citizen Life, Shiva said, “The promoter team of the company, the additional services provided to the insured while selling the insurance, the insurance plan of the company, the management team, the bonus rate, etc. are timely. In this way, citizen life should also be chosen. I don’t mean to say ‘citizen’ is good and other bad, but Citizen Life is committed to timely and customer-oriented service. ’
According to Shiva, insurance penetration is less in Madhes area as compared to other places. “Insurance companies and insurance authorities are conducting insurance awareness programmes. However, the amount is not as much as it should be,” he said, adding, “Gradually the Madhes people are getting insurance, now it will be better available in the coming days.” ’
“Citizen Life is a company that not only provides insurance awareness but also provides training to employees, agents and branch heads working in the company from time to time. The citizen leaves no stone unturned to train the employees of the company. Capacity building of employees and agents is our goal. Because if the agents and employees are well educated, then the insurance understanding among the general public is good,” said Shiva, adding, “Citizen Life has been training the employees in banking, digital and many other subjects by bringing the Citizen College into operation with the aim that the employees need not only the company but also outside knowledge.” From time to time, we have invited social activists, police, digital sector personalities and banking sector personalities. ’
Shiva believes that the insurance market will be better if the old employees are trained and upgraded to the higher level by making them skilled rather than the trend of bringing in new employees. “This is good for the welfare of the employees and good for the company as well,” he said, adding, “Working in the same company is good for both parties, in my opinion.” It takes time for a person working in one place to adjust, understand the environment, learn the job when he goes to another company. It doesn’t mean that all these things will be shot there. For example, moving a plant to a new location may or may not move there. However, if sewage is found in the area where it grows, it will flourish. Similarly, if the employee is also upgrading in the company and the company is also doing well, then it is better to work in the old company. ’

During my long journey in the insurance sector, I had the opportunity to meet many agents with Shiva. “An agent comes to earn respect, respect and respect for a short period of time, an agent comes without knowledge on the basis of a long-term career, and an agent comes without knowledge on the basis of friends,” he said. ’
Shiva said that if the agent insurance market is long-term, then the insurance market will also be good. He stressed the need for the company to make the insurance market long-term by making the agent aware that everyone earns income by enabling the agent to survive in the insurance market, increase the team.
Shiva thinks insurance is therefore necessary
Of late, insurance has become a basic necessity. Just as gas, bamboo, cotton, education, and health are non-existent needs, insurance is a basic necessity. There is also a need for insurance savings and security. Along with the risk, you can also be insured for future plans. Earlier, there was a joint family, but now single families are growing. In a joint family, when one person was damaged, the other took care of him. At present, one person in a single family earns money and if something happens to him, there is a financial loss to the dependent family. Insurance is also needed to get rid of this problem.
In the end, Shivar thanked Bhushan Rimal and Deep BC for considering the company as their family and playing the role of parents. He also thanked the management team, chief marketing officer, employees and agents. He also said that he is moving ahead with the aim of making the insurance business of the entire company better and not only to make the area designated by the company successful and capable.
Shiva feels that citizen life’s digital concept has made it easier to get and do insurance. “After becoming digital, people’s trust has increased,” he said, adding, “Most of the transactions in Citizen Life are done through digital means. This will make it easier for customers and easy for insurance companies as well. ’
Shiva believes that Citizen Life will always move forward by supporting the interests of the insured. Apart from the insurance sector, Shiva is associated with many organizations including Lions Club, Electricity Entrepreneurs Association, JSIS. Shiva has also got the opportunity to travel to different places and abroad from the insurance sector. He also expressed his commitment to spend his life in the insurance sector.
